CPR and first aid training
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation programs are the most popular courses we offer to trainees in Calgary, Alberta. CPR is given to victims who have fallen unconscious because of cardiac arrest. Cardiac arrest happens when the heart stops working because there is not enough blood supplying it with oxygen, typically during a heart attack.
CPR training teaches students how to perform chest compressions, give rescue breaths, and use automated external defibrillators (AEDs). Basic first aid is also included in all the programs (unless stated), that teach trainees basic first aid skills such as wound care.
The CPR training programs we offer are:
- Standard First Aid and CPR (14-16 hours)
- Emergency First Aid and CPR (6-8 hours)
- CPR/AED (4-6 hours, depends on category/level of training)
- Emergency Child Care First Aid and CPR (8 hours)
- Standard Child Care First Aid and CPR (16-20 hours)
Safety is a very wide topics, leading to a variety of safety programs at St. Mark James Training Calgary. Safety programs are focused on teaching trainees how to avoid specific hazards and what to do if ever they occur and cause an accident.
We offer safety and awareness programs on the following topics:
- Food safety and handling
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)

- Transport of Dangerous Goods (TDG)
- Fire hazards
The WHMIS, H2S, TDG, and fire hazard programs are all available online through our provider. In-house food safety and handling and H2S programs are offered at the main training facility in Alberta.
Food safety and handling is an important requirement for food facilities. Facilities are required to have at least 1 person who is certified with a food safety certificate in order to operate. In Calgary, there are different kinds of sessions for food safety:
- Provincial certification course
- Mini food safety course (general, special events, and farmer’s markets)
All programs offered at St. Mark James Training are certification programs, where students receive completion certifications once they pass and finish a program. Certificate validity varies per program but is generally three years only, so remember to sign up for re-certification classes. We do not renew expired certification.
Notes: Food safety certification does not need to be renewed but is recommended to be updated every 5 years. For the other safety programs, H2S alive certification is valid for three years while the other on-line safety programs do not expire.
