Management for a blood clot in the eye

A blood clot in the eye does not require treatment until there are alarming symptoms such as changes in vision or a persistent red spot. A doctor should be consulted so that proper assessment can be carried out.

If the symptoms are mild, a doctor must be consulted so that artificial tears can be given to soothe the eyes. The individual should not rub the eyes since this increases the risk for another bleeding episode that can worsen the clot.

Home remedies

  • Heat is effective in providing relief from eye irritation. You can apply a warm compress over the affected eyelid. A towel soaked in warm water can be placed over the eyelid and should be repeated 6-8 times throughout the day.
  • An ice pack can also be used to provide relief to the irritation.
  • Cucumber can be used to relieve some of the pain and irritation in the eye. Simply place some slices on the eyelid for a soothing effect.
